Pet Care During a Weather Emergency
Severe weather can be a stressful, frightening time, especially for a pet that has only ever known good care and a loving, friendly home. When emergency...
Although you probably think of them more as a “lampshade” collar than their actual Elizabethan collar name, they serve an important purpose. E-collars are typically used to protect your pets from licking their stitches after getting spayed or neutered. Here are some tips to keep the process as non-traumatic as possible:
Move obstructions
Your dog is probably in a little bit of shock and doesn’t quite know how to navigate with the big bulky collar on his head. Help him out by making things a little easier. Move his food dishes away from the wall so he doesn’t bump into it. To get your pooch a little more acclimated, lead him through the hallway so he’s a little bit more accurate when he’s walking around. This will help him not run into walls or other obstructions. Also, make sure to make sure the fur near the collar isn’t tangled in it.
Follow your vet’s directions
You may want to help relieve your dog for the times when he eats or drink, but be sure to consult your veterinarian first. If they say it needs to be on all the time, follow their instructions.
Build self-esteem
Calling your dog a “lampshade head” will lower his self-esteem and create a situation where his social well-being will quickly plummet into an oblivion that you couldn’t possibly imagine. Just kidding – it’s actually kind of funny to say that.
